About this coffee:

Strictly Hard Bean • European Process • Single Origin • 100% Premium Arabica Coffee

Situated in Central America, Guatemala is one of the world’s top coffee origins and the eighth largest producer.

The Antigua coffee region of Guatemala is characterised by high elevations, low humidity, lots of sun and cool nights. Antigua is surrounded by three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego and Acatenango and every now and then, Fuego (one of Guatemala’s three active volcanoes) will add a dusting of minteral-rich ash to Antigua’s soil contributing to the well-balanced, clean and bright acidity that distiguishes coffee from this region. Coffee plants are shaded by native trees which not only protected them from excessive sunlight but also the occasional frost.

Guatemala Antigua is generally wet processed (coffee cherries are immediately depulped after picking and then fermented in water-filled tanks). After being thoroughly washed, the coffee is carefully sun dried on patios before entering mechanical driers, for precise and consistent results. Once meticulously dried, the coffee rests in parchment until it is prepared for export.

  •  SHB (Strictly Hard Bean) specifies that the coffee was grown at an altitude above 1350 meters. This term is also synonymous with SHG/Strictly High Grown; this classification is higher than HB.
  • EP (European Preparation) specifies that the raw beans are hand sorted in Europe to remove any defective beans and foreign material before being re-sacked.
